Introduction

This Group presents aggregate and structured CBNRM knowledge for Sub-Saharan Africa. The knowledge included here will be on two levels, first, the region as a whole, and, second, for the various sub-regions that it can be divided in. It is important to clarify that Africa is one region, the inhabitants of which have more in common than what separates them. At the same time it is, for a variety of reasons and for specific purposes, useful to present sub-regional aspects of this overall reality.

The sub-regions in Africa are: (1) Central Africa, (2) East Africa, (3) Horn of Africa, (4) Indian Ocean Islands, (5) North Africa, (6) Sahel, (7) Southern Africa, and (8) West Africa. Please note that the sub-region Sahel is a cross-cutting and transboundary sub-region. Taken together, all but the North Africa sub-region constitute Sub-Saharan Africa.
