Africa: CD-ROM on CBNRM material

Introduction

This Item contains information about a CD-ROM by ARD, Inc. and USAID. It gathers various hyperlinked documents and other material pertaining to CBNRM in Africa. This page includes an overview and rationale for preparing this CD, as well as draft documents that will be included on the CD. The purpose of doing this is, first, to present this work-in-progress to all stakeholders and, second, to invite CBNRM Net members to read this material and comment upon it, as an input into revising the current beta version of the CD-ROM.

This Item is presented in conjunction with a broader focus on the use of advanced ICT technology, in this case the use CD-ROM in CBNRM. The Item is prepared in conjunction with CBNRM Net Newsletter no. 12, August 2001 (see Category Newsletters). The theme in this issue is the use of CD-ROMs in CBNRM. Two current projects that aim to utilize this technology in Africa are presented:

IUCN is preparing a CD-ROM on participatory NRM in Eastern and Southern Africa, and
ARD, Inc. of Burlington, Vermont, USA with support from the US Agency for International Development (AFR-SD), is preparing a CBNRM CD-ROM on Africa. This is an output of the "NetWeaver CBNRM expert system" developed for USAID/AFR-SD by the Heron Group, Pennsylvania State University and ARD Inc. A number of files that will be available on the CD-ROM can be downloaded from the CBNRM Net website (see below).

There are a number of advantages to utilizing this medium for storing and dissemination information that deserves attention (see CBNRM Net Newsletter no. 12 for details).
