The Community-Based Natural Resource Management Network

This Category contains aggregate and structured CBNRM knowledge for major regions where developing countries and countries in transition are located. These regional overviews present the situation with regard to CBNRM in a particular region, including the overall strategy, results achieved, problems encountered and lessons learned. They are of crucial importance for CBNRM, including for CBNRM stakeholders and for advancing the CBNRM agenda.

The presently available regional overviews are identical with the reports prepared by six Regional Working Groups organized among the participants at the International CBNRM Workshop (Washington DC, USA, May 1998). All groups were given the same set of issues to respond to, and the results are accordingly comparable across regions.

CBNRM can be addressed at a number of levels, ranging from a local community to a continent. Here structured and aggregate knowledge for one such level, namely regions, are presented. The knowledge produced on this level as well as the country level (see Category Countries), are closely related. They are also related to knowledge produced on the local level, namely Category Case studies (see also Category Website).

The knowledge produced at the regional level, that is, regional overviews, is closely related to knowledge produced at the other recognized levels, namely case studies (see Category Case studies) and country overviews (see Group Countries). The regional overviews are structured in a way that facilitate comparison and mutual transfer of knowledge with the other two knowledge products (see Category CBNRM Net).

More specifically, country-specific case studies and, in turn, country overviews, provide background to and give input into regional overviews. Vice versa, regional overviews provide important background to and function as structuring framework for country overviews and, in turn, country-specific case studies.
